What's the rarest bird you've had in your garden?

Not actually in garden, but flying over Osprey and Peregrine. In garden probably Waxwing and a trio of Peacocks that were in the area a few months before disappearing.

    Great Leica Service

Excellent recent service from Leica. One eyecap broke on my 7 year old 8/32 Ultravids (shouldn't happen I know) about 2 weeks ago. Phoned Leica and a replacement arrived in post 2 days later. Unfortunately the wrong size so I returned new one with old broken one to them. Correct one plus a spare...

    Unidentified bird, Masai Mara, Kenya

I would agree with TZBirder. Back colour looks wrong to me for Amethyst. It is not just Marico's that look like this on the back, but agree Marico is by far most likely.

    Optical Performance

Renze I am not talking about view, but more about the ergonomics and pleasure of using the binocular. For example, before buying my main binoculars I tried various models in the shop. I tried the Zeiss FL and the view was excellent, but I didn't like the ergonomics and despite the view, knew I...

    Optical Performance

Renze, I like your categories. Regardless of the various performance fields though, the binoculars have to "feel" right when you use them. Someone can find object, field etc outstanding, but if they don't like the feel of the binoculars will you get as much pleasure from them as binoculars with...

    Got a Norwich list?

I don't keep a Norwich list, but a couple of times a week over the last 2 years I have done the river walk between St Georges and Pulls Ferry during my lunch break. Number only a measly 40 but I don't take my binos and only go by visual recognition, not sound. Most notable is Peregrine and...

    Cotingas and Manakins

Received my copy last Friday and it will take me a few months to get through it all. I have been looking forward to this book ever since it was first mooted several years ago. I can see why it took so long to produce! If you are reading Guy, one word - excellent.

    The World's best bird?

Some good ones above. Araripe Manakin for me - absolutely spectacular.

Best birds seen whilst looking out of a train/coach/plane etc window?

On train, Osprey on nest in Canada. Mind you, train was stationary at the time and I only climbed on it to get a better view!

    Hummingbird monograph sponsorship opportunity...anyone?

Good point re Thrushes Niels. I have that book and it does contain a lot of species.

    Hummingbird monograph sponsorship opportunity...anyone?

Would agree with you to a certain extent Niels, but the sheer number of species, females, juvs etc as already pointed out by Richard would make this a huge task. In turn would require significant sales. The funding idea put forward by Birdboy is interesting and would certainly work for the more...
