Too early for Fieldfares in Fife?

    - Hi Went fishing with my sons (4 and 10) and grandpa on Sunday up at a reservoir near Leslie in Fife, Central Scotland and as we pulled up to park I could have swore I saw a Fieldfare - like a Mistle Thrush but distinct grey coloration on back. I thought these only visited in the Winter...

    Help needed to identify wader

All, looking for help. Went to new part of Loch Leven this morning - RSPB Reserve - looking for nice panorama - but instead ended up trying to photograph birds! Took picture of this lonely wader who was sharing a stone jetty with some juvenile pied wagtails. No idea what it is looking at my...
  4. Mother and Baby

    Mother and Baby

Taken this lunchtime at my work. We have a large storm pond at the front and it has a family of coots (6 babies, was 8) and mallard mother and 11 grown up chicks. The male coot keeps chasing the mallards! Sorry about reduced size - hope the compression isn't too great - quick post before bed...

    Green with Envy

Had a barbecue on Saturday which meant the regulars wouldn't visit the feeders. This male Greenfinch eyed us from the fence as we ate our burgers. Managed to go into the house and get the camera as he posed!

This is an incredible photo. My son is doing a school project on Hummingbirds. Please could we have permission to use this photograph in his school project. What would be even better is if you could e-mail a Hi-Res version of this shot so we can print at A4 size.

Eldest Son's Homework - Request for pics

    - Hi My son who is disabled has chosen to do a project at primary school (He is 10) on hummingbirds. What would be great is if we could get permission to use some of the photo's in the gallery for his project folder. He has to do a poster and we are going to work on it together in Photoshop - I...

    Mallard Critique please

    - Hi First observation is that the picture may need straightening - it looks like the duck is on a slight slope running right to left. Could be my imagination though. The main thing for me though is the background is not very inspiring - and there is maybe too much of the background to the...

Nice shot - is it black and white though - on my monitor and laptop seems to have a reddish cast - is it a duotone image using a warm red and black? There again I have just calibrated my monitor for photoshop so maybe I've done it wrong (again!)

    Mystery Finch

    - Birdspotter I sometimes use the RSPB site to look up birds - thing is they only have a male Goldfinch and a male Goldfinch in their gallery. The reason I didn't think it was a Greenfinch is that I have a greenfinch pair in the garden regularly - the male is a brilliant green the female is a...

    Mystery Finch

    - All Seen today at the feeders at Vane Farm RSPB Reserve near Kinross, Scotland. Maybe this is a female goldfinch - if it is it is my first ever! Martin -

Cracking shot - these little guys are so difficult to capture on film as they dart here and there - often in shady places with poor light - even when it is sunny!

    Lookout Post

    - Emptied the bin and then sat for five minutes in the sunshine on the swing chair hoping to catch a few shots with the new telephoto lens. I am really pleased with this shot as it shows that my TCON17 is capable of really sharp shots given good light and good handling - focus and shake! I...

    Are these Siskins?

    - Hi Spied these birds the other days so I thought I'd take the camera to the same spot and sure enough they kept appearing. Had a lovely song too. Think I may have a pair of Siskins here or are they something else? Also saw Chaffinch, Greenfinch and a Goldfinch in the same spot. Martin -

Fabulous shot. Like ps11aj said I cannot get anywhere near these birds either - any noise and plop they go underwater!

    Varied Thrush needs your help

    - Hi This is a lovely looking thrush - merits being posted in the main gallery. A few comments: It is difficult to take good shots in overcast conditions but you've done a fine job here - some sun really makes a big difference particularly if it is over your shoulder. Trick with wildlife...

    Hooded Crow?

    - Daz Your not alone in imagining this - we have flocks of carrion crow round here and I am sure some have white on their back. Also noticed this with the odd blackbird - perhaps it is some genetic thing or maybe an Ouzel Ring Crow. Martin -
