    Shorebirds sites near Stuttgart?

Will be visiting Stuttgart in late May, and i was hoping to look for some shorebirds while in the area. Echinger Stausee looks like a great spot, but would take some effort to get there without a rental car (2.5hr drive). I would appreciate any tips on alternate locations to consider. Thank you.

Salton Sea, California - Large Gull ID

I had these two down as Western Gulls, from a February 2012 visit to the Salton Sea in California. Have since read a few times that Western Gulls are not expected at this location - and many are likely misidentified Yellow-footed Gulls (especially non-adults). So i would appreciate any...

    Pennsylvania Prairie, Missouri

Found this site scanning through ebird for locations to search for Smith's Longspur. Can't seem to find any information as to whether this is public land - or whom to ask for permission if appropriate. From the satelite view it looks like a field with no parking lot or such. Is anyone from...

Confirm Red Phalarope - Fort Erie, ON, Canada

Based on the November date, grey back, and thicker bill...i believe this is a Red Phalarope - but would appreicate confirmation of this lifer. Also a question, is the yellow on the bill diagnostic? Don't recall seeing yellow on the bill of a red-necked phalarope before.

Hawk ID - Lucky Hammock, Everglades, Florida

Overcast sunrise at Lucky Hammock (in Mid October). This is the best view i got. Obviously a very poor shot, but based on the season, location, shape and dark form - i would think Broad-winged or Short-tailed Hawk are the likely candidates? I would assume the photo is inconclusive, but I would...

Sparrow IDs - Little Missouri National Grassland, North Dakota, USA

Two birds from last week in Little Missouri National Grassland, North Dakota. (2nd and 3rd shots are the second bird). Habitat was short-grass prairie. Both looked different than the numerous Brewer's and Grasshopper Sparrows.

Late March, Saltmarsh and Seaside Sparrows.

I was hoping to search for both Saltmarsh and Seaside Sparrows in late March. I will be based in Fredericksburg, VA - so i am trying to determine my best bet to observe both these species within the shortest drive possible. Sites in Maryland appear to be my best bet based on a quick scan of...

Advice on feasibility of Minnesota spring tour.

I am trying to sort out timing/routes for a trip through Minnesota for birding. While i have no specific date constraints...i am hoping to do a single trip to hit all the target birds (as i am not sure both a winter and summer visit are possible this year). Target Species: Kirtland Warbler...

    Shrike sp, Miyakejima, Japan.

Observed on Miyakejima island, from the parking area for the Nature Center at Tairo-ike on November 17, 2012. Unfortunately it is a somewhat obscured photo, but the cap did not appear to be rufous (or at least not strongly rufous). Do brown shrike occur on Miyakejima? Cheers, Peeter

Suspected Shearwater - Miyakejima Ferry, Japan

Observed November 17th on board ferry from Miyakejima to Tokyo. Weather and photographic opportunities were terrible: 50kph sustained winds with gusts to 80kph....and light to heavy rain. There was fear that the Ferry would not return to Tokyo based on the conditions. This specific bird seemed...

Female Black-faced Bunting, Toyotashi, Aichi, Japan

Bird observed in Maeda Koen park, in Toyotashi, Aichi, Japan (November 2012). Was skulking about in the scrub bordering a small water management pond. I believe it is a female black-faced bunting, but was far less yellow with far less streaking on the breast, compared to other birds observed...

I believe the first image shows a common tern on the left, sandwich tern and laughing gulls behind, and a juvenile tern on the right. My initial impression was a Forster's Tern, but the legs and head are wrong. Is it possible for young sandwich terns to have this bill coloration? Second...
