Does GPS work in a wood?

Hi, I get very lost in woods. Like going 180 degrees in the wrong direction compared to where I think I'm going. I have bought a compass which will help, but it would still be nice to exactly pinpoint my position, especially if I want to do any mapping/surveying. Does anyone have experience...

Incremental Change$: Highway to Bankruptcy Revisited

But aren't there a range of companies making a range of binoculars at a range of prices? So you can just pick what you want? There will always be a market for the "absolute best" whatever the price tag, as there wil always be a market for "budget" binoculars. Pick your poison.

Advice around where to go near LOWESTOFT in SEPTEMBER

Thanks for your help. One last question - are there any places where I would need my scope? Or should I just take my bins when I go out and about? I don't know this area, so I don't know how advisable it is to go about with my scope on my back!!

Advice around where to go near LOWESTOFT in SEPTEMBER

Thanks, a lot of places listed in those links. Especially the first one. So am I to assume that pretty much any of those sites in Lowestoft is as good as any other?

Advice around where to go near LOWESTOFT in SEPTEMBER

Hi, I'm going for a mid-week break in Lowestoft in mid-September. I'm a real low-lister, there are a lot of fairly common birds I haven't seen or haven't seen very often. Ideally would like to see some different rarer passerines, but really anything. I have a few hours each morning for maybe...

FWIW the wildlife hospital said Dunnock. Thanks for your responses.

Albino Fledgling Dunnock or Robin or... ?

Thanks for your input. I wonder if people thought, because the original post had no explanation, that this was some type of captive bird.

Albino Fledgling Dunnock or Robin or... ?

Sorry, I should have explained. A friend called to say it was in his garden under a hedge. The hedge is narrow and on the other side is a busy road. He'd watched it for a couple of hours. It was making no noise, and no other bird (house sparrows) had made any attempt to approach it. It was...

VAT increase and price of bins in the UK?

The VAT increase is equivalent to £2.13 on every £100. So £1500 binoculars would cost £1531.95 if the VAT were applied consistently.

    Mallard with dwarfism?

Hi all, Take a look at this Mallard which is about 1/2 - 2/3 the size, in most respects, of a normal Mallard. You can see a normal Mallard to the right. I first saw this bird last year, so it is doing ok. I tried to think what it could be a hybrid with but cant see any clues, wondering if it...

    Opticron 7x roofs

The eye relief is significantly different, it seems higher eye relief = lower fov with these two. I would take the eye relief over the fov, others might not.

    RSPB Bittern "Mania"

The question is: who are these articles written for? There is no point talking to the majority non-birdwatching RSPB membership (or potential new members) about lots of different birds they have never heard of. It makes more sense to concentrate on a few "characters" just like a novel where...

    Where to buy Sunflower Hearts?

If you read their description on this page: http://www.streetendfeeds.co.uk/product.asp?catid=13 you'd be forgiven for thinking that their sunflower hearts come from their home-grown black sunflower, but that is not the case. I contacted Street End Feeds (aka Really Wild Bird Co) and they...

    Where to buy Sunflower Hearts?

Cheapest price wholesale is £1.10 per kg. They retail at about £1.40 per kilo lowest. You are paying £1.60 per kg so not the best available price. But there is more to sunflower hearts than just price: Hearts that come from striped sunflower do not have has a high an oil content as hearts...

    A Question about goldfinches

In my experience Goldfinches are more confident than most other birds. They'll feed closer to my house and tolerate more disturbance than, say, Greenfinches.

    sunflower hearts vs sunflower seeds

The weight of the shell is between 35% and 45% of the weight of the seed (more for striped sunflower) - I wouldn't describe that as minimal.
