    Id Please.

Hi Dave, I captured something similar a little while ago. My searching suggested a member of the Pompilidae - spider-hunting wasps. And the nearest I could get to it was Pompilidae Cinereus. Try this as a starter. I would be curious about other suggestions as well.

    Tamron, Sigma or Canon

After all that, I decided to buy the Tamron. Got it from MPB at a great price and in near mint condition - so quite a saving. My thinking went - as macro photography is always always going to be a sideline to my main interest in bird photography I could not really justify (especially to my...

    Tamron, Sigma or Canon

Thanks everyone. I must say this is a difficult (albeit in the course of things a not "too heavy") decision. I think I need to get some of these in my hands, so as to get a feel for each lens before I rush in. Cheers, Hugh

    Tamron, Sigma or Canon

A bit of a dilemma now then - whether to save and wait for the Sigma 150mm or to jump straight in with the Tamron?! Cheers, Hugh

    Tamron, Sigma or Canon

Hi Steve, The Tamron does seem a good deal - pound for pound. Cheers, Hugh

    Tamron, Sigma or Canon

Hi Rob, Yes - I've seen that review, but there is nothing like hearing about first hand experiences. I was just wondering what other users think? Thanks for taking the time to reply. Cheers, Hugh

    Tamron, Sigma or Canon

Hi, I am very tempted by the Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro, largely because of its price. This would be my first dedicated macro lens - I have a Sigma 75-300 APO macro at present. Is this a good decision for a novice macro photographer?! Or, would the additional cost for a Canon 100mm be worth it? Or...

Advice on new camera set up

Hi Justin, Thanks for these thoughts. In the end I went for a Canon 60D with a 100-400mm lens. Despite all my good intentions I exceeded my budget - such is life! Cheers, Hugh

    Which Canon lens?

Hi, Thanks Thomas and David for drawing attention to the excellent photos you can get with the 100-400. I am now convinced! Best wishes, Hugh

    Which Canon lens?

Thanks DJ, too. Great photos. I can see the difference with the 400mm. Cheers, Hugh

    Which Canon lens?

Thanks very much for the advice David and Overread. I think I'll go for the 100-400. Now I need to look out for the best deal. Cheers, Hugh

    Which Canon lens?

Hi, Some advice please. I have settled on buying a Canon 50D, but am still very unsure as to which lens would be best for bird photography. I am now torn between the following: Canon EF 70 - 200 f:2.8 L IS USM or Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS USM These are both within "my" price range, but...

Advice on new camera set up

Many thanks Alistair. Does the lower MP count for the ID Mk2 have any impact on quality of outputs? Hugh

Advice on new camera set up

Hi, I want to upgrade my current set-up (Sony Alpha 100 with 75-300APO Sigma lens and 18-200 Sony bundled lens) for kit up to £1500-ish. I am torn between staying with the Sony range or starting again with Canon? For this sum what camera and lens options would provide the best outcome for bird...

    Hello from Warwickshire

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the encouragement. Incidentally, I had already seen your website and blogs through other web searches, as well as Richard's - "one man and his pond". I found these very impressive indeed. It is very good to make contact with you and thanks for the offer of advice, which I...

    Hello from Warwickshire

Hi, Delighted to be a member of this fantastic community. I live in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire and all of this is new to me. In the last few weeks I have bought a new set of bins and have just got an Opticron IS60ED scope, with 16-48x eyepiece - so I am raring to go. I have always enjoyed...
