    Grey Catbird, Dumetella carolinensis

I believe this shot to be representative of the species - at least in this area. They love the berries of the Poke Sallet plant. Taken August 2003 with Nikon 4500 and Nikon Sky and Earth 60mm scope.

    Bluebird ? Tanager ? What the ...

Ok, anyone ID this ? Shot here in Helena today in early evening sun, so maybe that had a strange effect on the colors. It was behaving rather like a flycatcher. Sitting in the treetops, flying out to catch bugs in midair. It seemed larger than a blue bird. I don't know, what do you think?

    Juvie ID

This was a mystery bird for me yesterday. After looking at around 100 pics on the web I came to the conclusion that it was a juvenile Eastern Towhee. Could anyone confirm or debunc this? Thanks in advance for any help you could provide - Paul...

    Young Cooper's Hawk at WalMart

I found this young bird in the WalMart parking lot ! Unfortunately the background was a garish pink awning. I tried to make it look a little more "natural" by changing the colors. You can see it here: http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/data/525/934ycooper.jpg

    Krider's Hawk ?

I had posted these in the Raptors Forum and Beverly Baynes mentioned that she had seen similar birds a couple of times, once with a friend who told her it was a Krider's hawk. I haven't found any mentions of these being seen in Alabama in my searches, though I did see mention of one in Georgia...

    Very Light Morph Red-tailed Hawk

I've been trying to get a good picture of this particular bird (I actually have some in-flight shots in my gallery). Today the opportunity presented itself, unfortunately I only got off two shots before it flew. The settings were not quite right on my camera, resulting in some blown highlights...

    Mature Cooper's Hawk

I found this one by the roadside at lunchtime, it was VERY big. As big as some of the redtails I've been seeing.I was just across the street from it, maybe 30 - 40 feet. You'll probably notice some vignetting, I had to zoom out to get the bird to fit the frame!

    Beautiful Morning: Coopers Hawk

What a great morning ! The sun came out for the first time in days AND I found my elusive Coopers Hawk on the way into work. :)

    Stalking the Barred Owl

I went tromping around this little bit of swampy woods near my house today for about three hours, looking for the Barred Owl that I hear often, have managed to see twice, and have yet to photograph. Not easy work, the underbrush is thick and full of briars. After about two hours of trying to...

Extreme Closeup - Red Shouldered Hawk

Here's a 100% crop of an image I took yesterday. It really shows the metallic looking beak well. A down-sized version of the entire image is in my gallery here: http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/data/500/934dscn5316_800.jpg

    My Red-shouldered Friend

These hawks are positively posing for me. This one was so close I had to back off on the camera's zoom to get the whole bird! That left me with some vignetting, but I was able to crop it out. I have many more similar shots.

    A Pair of Red-shouldered Hawks

Late this afternoon I had spotted one of my neighborhood Red-shouldered hawks when another came to join him on his perch ! They both made quite a racket for a minute or so, but then settled down together for a while. The original one (the one on the left) eventually flew to another spot whole...

    Barn Owl

And how could I have forgotten this one ?

    Male or Female ?

You may have already seen this one, but I'm not sure of the gender - I'm thinking female. Anyone ? http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/data/500/934kestrel.jpg

    American Kestrel

My new favorite local raptor - but I still haven't gotten that "killer shot" - yet.

    Red-shouldered Hawk

O.K., one more. This one lives in a marshy area about 2 blocks from my home.

    Red-tailed Hawk

There are tons of these near my home in Helena, Alabama. This is one of my better shots of one.

    Hello From Alabama !

Hi everyone, I just got into digital photography this past fall, and more recently into digiscoping. I don't have the ultimate in equipment, but I try to make up for that in enthusiasm! I'm currently using a Nikon CP 885 with a Nikon Earth and Sky (RAII) 60 mm scope. My passion so far has been...
