    Martin Mere this morning, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 2 Dunlin, 3 Black Tailed Gods, 2 Redshank several ringed Plover, Oystercatchers and Avocets all from Ron Barker hide. A Green Sandpiper from the Hale Hide. 2 Buzzards flying over with plenty of Tree Sparrows at varying points around the reserve.

    I'm surprised they've been felling trees at this time of year when birds are still nesting! Even if the trees are nest free there's bound to be ground nesting birds being disturbed. why couldn't any tree felling be done in winter?

    15 Avocet at Martin Mere today! the first of the year arrived on Sunday (13th). Still plenty of Brambling from the Janet Kear hide, Smew and Green Winged Teal also seen today (but not by me!)

    We went to see the Redhead on Sunday but it had just flown to the back of the reedbed out of sight! Went back today and it was showing well, also today 1 Woodcock, 2 Marsh Harrier (together), several Brambling, 3 Ringed Plover and a Sparrowhawk.

    Sorry you didn't see the Redpolls Jaff. It was one of the staff in the visitor center who told us about the Waxwing she said it had been seen on the trees towards the back of the building viewable from the bridge.

    They were feeding in the tops of the Alders/Birches roughly along the stretch between the Redwing and Rufford hides, the 3 Siskins were in the same trees.

    At Mere Sands this morning between 8-30 to 1-00, 9 Redpoll, 3 Siskin, at least 8 Bullfinch, 6 Nuthatch, Tree Creepers, Tree Sparrows 3+ Gt.Spotted Woods, 6male and 5 female Gooseander, 2 Shoveller and a pair of Goldeneye.     There must be 3 or 4 different birds at least in the West Lancs area with birds being seen at Hesketh Out Marsh, Banks Marsh, Marshside and Martin Mere.

    A few hours at Martin Mere this morning produced 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Peregrine, 3 Barnacle Geese with c200 Pinkfeet, 4 Buzzards, still quite a few Brambling with the best place to see them being the Janet Kear Hide, 20+ Ruff and plenty of Tree Sparrows out today.

    A good day at Martin Mere today with 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Peregrine, 1 Water Rail, 10+ Brambling, 1 Bewicks (4 reported) Goldcrest, 15+ Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, about 2000 Pinkfeet and 700+ Whoopers.

    Woodcock showing from the Janet Kear hide again today though it didn't show till 1-30ish but it did come out into the open also a Water Rail at the same time. 10 Brambling on the feeder also brambling at the feeders near the Kingfisher hide and In-Focus shop.
