At around lunch time it was circling low over the area that's generally in front of the hide at Upton Park, but it wasn't seen to land anywhere. I was on the cycle path at the bay's edge, just outside the fenced-in area of Upton Park at the time (towards the roundabout/corner). I picked it up on...

3 ok looking Bitterns (including prolonged scope-filling views of one) and an average-looking Western Water Rail at Hatch Pond this eve, but I couldn't find the exquisitely delectable YLG at Holes Bay John (in case you were thinking of twitching it ;)). 107 Avocets put up by a Peregrine, a...

Hi folks. We down Dorset this weekend, so any tips on what's about would be nice. Is the Poole Ring-billed Gull still knocking about? Visiting family in Bear Cross, so tempted to visit Longham to look for the Smew and Jack Snipe too. Cheers, Larry

I was also pondering this bird's origin Mark, and figured a lost eastern bird might make more sense. Don't know anything about how they're supposed to vary geographically (HBW anyone?), but thought the Longham bird appeared a lot duller even than the 100 or so eastern birds I saw in China early...

The Great Grey Shrike was showing well and frequently at Arne this afternoon. Seems to be settled in a fairly small area within the reserve. 2 pretty snazzy birds on a weekend "family" visit. Nice one Dorset :t: Has anything else scarce or rare ever showed up at Longham?
