Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Here’s some interesting reading on the topic. Depth of Field and Flatness of Field - Binoculars - Cloudy Nights

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I think what Lee is trying to relay is that the DOF is determined by magnification not the cost of the optic. It’s inherent in optical design. A seven has more than an eight and an eight has more than a 10 and so on. I’ve experienced what you’ve described in the conquest, but I determined it...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Not to me. But to others, it does appear to be that way.

Carina the boss would be more comfortable with an SF. You concur? 😀

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I don’t think the picture show it well because we can’t the depth. If you notice in the pictire the index finger is perfectly straight across (no contortion) the focus wheel and the second finger also straight, it’s resting on the rear bridge/hinge, which by the way is almost level with the...

I think that went over my head, bounced off the wall and through the open window 🤭

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Has anybody previously complained about the focus wheel location on the EL (32 here) or the EDG (42 here)? Just wondering. Paul

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

You’re not getting any disagreements with me when it comes to the SF, phenomenal haptic design. I wonder how much of the complaints on the Noctivids are born out of the fact that they came out after the SF as Leica’s answer to the SF, and the focuser is not as well placed as the SF, none are...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Lee For me are two things here to unwrap, the first of course is the focus position, I’m not finding the position or reach much different, if at all (see a few photos attached) from other bins, excluding the SF of course, which as you described as wonderful in the hand. I generally don’t/can’t...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Agreed, positioning and feel of focuser is perfect and buttery smooth. Probably the smoothest on the market, followed by the Noctivids and the previous available Nikon EDGs. I know some have complained about the Noctivids focuser position , but I have no issues with it, and I find them to be a...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Wow ,you really do have tiny hands🤪, just kidding. You know what Lee, we’ve became very spoiled with the SF focus position. It’s really revolutionary in its design how they positioned it in relation to the barrels/bridges. That one feature alone can easily be the deciding feature when...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

On the 32’s, there barrels will be smaller in circumference so there will be more room between barrels and because they will be shorter the reach or hand position for the focuser will be closer. Thus will be much better for people with tiny hands 😜😉✌🏼🙏🏼.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Yeah I don’t get that reach thing on the Nocs Lee. I don’t doubt it all it’s uncomfortable for you. but my wife is 5.2” and she uses them all the time we go out , it’s one of her favorites except for the weight. If we‘ll be doing any serious walking then , no way. Then it’s the retros followed...

Hey Guys and Gals, Nothing official here, and please don’t quote me, (I got friends in places 🤫) but do not be surprised if you see a 32mm Noctivid in the not too distant future!!!! 🤪🤤 With the open bridge maintained (with better separation of barrels). Paul

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Yes I have them both and have compared side by side, but the Nocs are 842 and UVHD are 832. Do you want the best most luscious, beautiful image and build quality, Go for the Noctivids!!!! Its in my will to be berried with them😲. No globe effect, oh sooo bright and sharp and a creamy smooth...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Im a little sensitive to CA but have no problem with these binoculars. There is some CA noticeable when you get to the outer edges like many other quality binos. As well as a little bit can be seen on axis on very difficult lighted objects, like black birds or dark objects with water or sky...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Lol, love it. So well said and absolutely true. I’m one of the idiots that buys the SF, NL, EL, Nocs and puts them back in the case driving from spot to spot. And/or leaving them home or in my office safe and take my MHG or Kowa Genesis on the real hikes or climbing. And you definitely need to...

Wow that’s quite an endorsement for the 8 x 32SF. Many people here rave about the ELSV 42s. I would think that #2 granddaughter is not gonna be too happy about that. 🤭 happy new year Paul

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

😁 it’s all relative as said here more times than I can remember. But to quote part of your sentence “not enough to-warrant the price difference” Let’s keep in mind the person buying the Diamondback is saying that about the Monarch 5 and the zeiss Tera guy is saying that about the the conquest or...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

CSG I’m the same way on many things, not a dedicated viewer of anything. I enjoy all types of viewing experiences as well as the minutia of all the product differences. The facts as stated, ergonomically the SF didn’t work for you and was not enjoyable to use. i’m sure you would agree putting...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I already replied the mystery was solved. Zeiss now uses a protectant on the SF rubber and have started using it on conquest as well. The rubber is a different compound than any Zeiss prior to the SF. So about 5 years on the 42’s and about two years for the 32’s.

Yeah, birdwatching don’t like returns. B&H should be free returns, they are when I return.

Optics planet gave me a good deal as well, I paid $1712, but had to pay tax so came out to same thing. Also birdwatching.com has a $200 instant off list, free shipping and no tax out of CA. yeah we know, it was all about the deal, otherwise you wouldn’t have bought them 😏 Good luck.
