Thanks for the info., Bryan. I have to hope that some day I'll be able to be there at the correct time of year, which I have never managed yet (free nights a Cerro are quite a draw!)

Wow! That sounds great! I've done a bunch of CBC's up here in the GWN, but always wanted to do one in the tropics. Who organizes the Carara one, anyway? I have lots of great memories of birding there, would love to go back... Peter C.

Don't know about the stand structure either; but I doubt if the stands at the DND property (site of the 2007 nesting) had been burned over - at least, not recently. In terms of other sites in Ontario, though, SW of London would be pretty hopeless, I'm afraid - nary a forest of any significant...

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

I remember the 2007 breeding (I believe that was in the upper Ottawa River valley), the guy who banded the chicks did a presentation on it. No problem talking about that one, as it was on a Military base, you didn't have to worry about people just wandering around there. I didn't know about the...

Thanks, birdmeister. Keep your hopes up, there were four recent sightings in Southern Ontario (the Pelee Island bird being the latest). That is not a lot, of course; but it is much better than when i started birding, when the average number seen each spring was pretty close to zero. Peter C.

Wow, haven't been able to contribute to this thread for a while! Kirtland's Warbler Pelee Island, Ontario, Canada. All the sweeter because (a) it's a genuinely rare bird in Ontario (and fairly rare ANYWHERE), and (b)I've been trying to find one for about the past 28 springs.

Yes, I was thinking of the Necedah (Wisconsin) birds as well, but thought they were still being "guided" back and forth (although, I honestly have no idea of the wintering grounds). But I didn't think they'd have left the reserve yet.

I've never been, so know nothing about Georgetown and its surroundings (i.e., what the nearby, accessible habitat is like) ... but, any luck with the warblers down there? Peter

Kitchy - Hi, these birds "by the dozens", do you mean the Bushtit? (i.e. the bird in the photo). They do tend to flock like that - kinglets move in flocks too, but not usually that many... Cheers,

Green Mango, Caribbean National Forest, Puerto Rico. Capped a great week on that island, in which we saw 13 out of 17 of the island/regional endemics, and heard two of the remaining four.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

This is great news, Patrick! (And to think I spent a ton of money and went all the way to Trinidad....). I have to wonder if the species has been going through a genuine expansion, or if it's just a case of more eyes in the field in recent years. Either way, it's a long way from the "...single...

Sounds good, Edward! I've often wondered about Turkey - obviously, it's got a really good bird list, and I bet I'd love the food! Not so keen about going to a country where I don't speak a word of the language, though ... (of course, I speak English, so I suppose I could always resort to the...
