Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Depth of field being the the 'fore and aft' distances within which objects are in focus, and the areas in front of this and behind this are out of focus, is absolutely normal. This is why the portion that is in focus has a special name: Depth of field. This is why James posted 'this is how...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

But it is likely that the entire view through the $25 binos will be unsharp. Lee

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Yes. See Paultricounty's post. The depth of field is the part of the view that is in focus from the objects nearest to the observer that are in focus to those furthest away but still in focus. This is what is meant by depth of field and as Paul describes it varies with magnification. Field of...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

The SF and Conquest HD go out of focus at the same points. Lee

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I will try this out but I find your language puzzling. Depth of field is the area that is in focus, by definition, there is no part of it that isn't in focus because if it was out of focus it would not be considered part of the depth of field. Lee

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Sorry they don't work for you. Depth of focus is entirely dependent on magnification so for example all 8x binoculars have the same depth of focus. Lee

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Hi Upland. It is hard to understand quite what you mean by this. The focus wheel would not move itself, something has to move it. So do you mean you could not stop your focusing finger from nudging the wheel unintentionally and that the fast focus speed meant that a small nudge knocked the image...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Hi Paul, well, we are all different and I wouldn't like to manipulate my first finger in the way that you do in 2 of your photos. Too much like torture to me. Your pics remind me of the photo of the boss of Swarovski contorting here finger to reach the the focus wheel of an EL (see final pic...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Paul Just to explain what my beef about the position of the focus wheel on Noctivid is all about, take a look at the pic below. The guy has moved his hands up from the barrels to reach the focuser. This is more or less how I end up and if I can't keep all three fingers around the barrels it...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Hope they have moved the focus wheel. With my fingers wrapped around the barrels my first finger can't reach the focus wheel on the 42 so I have to move my hand towards the eyepieces, but if you do that there is no point in the open bridge layout. Gijs van Ginkel reported the same experience...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I can believe this about Kreisler who is a famous musician. You only have to listen to guitarists like Mark Knopfler or Eric Clapton when they pick up a guitar different from the one they normally play and guess what, they sound the same as usual. The skill in the fingers not the instrument. I...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

SF32 IMHO is better in every way than Conquest HD 32 BUT the Conquest HD remains one of my very favourite binoculars and when using it I never wish that I was using my SF32 instead. Lee

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

There is one easily measurable difference between SF8x32 and Conquest HD 8x32 and this is just one of the reasons I love them both. Using my standard test to estimate their focusing speeds I found that the Conquest is around twice as fast as the SF. My test is to focus on a building that I know...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I haven't seen this on my SFs but it reminds me that when I worked in a rubber industry for some products our factory included a special wax in the rubber compound and this migrated to the surface of the rubber and provided a level of protection for the rubber. It looked white and kind of...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I have just come back from 3 weeks on the Isle of Islay and (apart from my reviewing of Opticron's Verano BGA VHD 8x32) my binos were SF8x32 and Conquest HD. My opinion of these two is exactly the same as ZD's: SF simply has more clarity that is immediately obvious and getting really picky it...
