    Rare bird news for Florida

I've been having large gatherings of doves in my yard for the past few months, of at least 3 varieties - collared, mourning, and white-winged. On Sunday, while in my pool, I was overflown by a flock of 4 or 5 pure white doves...at least that I could see. One appeared to have a bit of a black...

    Rare bird news for Florida

Oh...sure - right after my hummingbird is shot down as a common ruby-throat, someone else goes and spots a rare one! ;) BTW - I went hunting for my Connecticut warbler again at Green Cay, but the weather was horrible yesterday. I spent an hour or so searching the forest in medium rain, then...

    Rare bird news for Florida

I just pulled up the yellow-breated chat for a look, but it doesn't look quite right - the belly and underside of tail look white, and he seems to have more of a white streak or mask around the eyes - the one I saw was all grey headed except an eye-ring just around the eye...and the underside...

    Rare bird news for Florida

I'm going to pull up the Mourning warbler photos and data and give it a really good look - and compare it to the Connecticut. But I've never heard of the Nashvilles down here - and from what I hear, they are much smaller than the Connecticut. This one was foraging around on the ground, and the...

    Rare bird news for Florida

Interesting day yesterday at Green Cay Wetlands. I am about 95% sure I've spotted a Connecticut Warbler, in the northside tree canopy area. It looked like an adult male - olive back, yellow underbelly, grey neck and head. I tried to get a photo of it, but it was all branches and poor light...

Right next to them - it's on the sod farm on Wickham across from the wetlands.

    Rare bird news for Florida

Yeah, I wasn't sure about it - I've only seen it once or twice, so I guess it's rare FOR ME to see it! I have that happen on a few different birds - I think they must be rare when I make a first-time spotting, only to find it's very common. Happened the first time I saw a European starling...

    Rare bird news for Florida

My yard is currently Dove Central for south Florida...so I can confirm indeed there are white winged doves all about. There are two pairs of white winged doves every day in my backyard, from about 2pm to 7pm. There are also several pairs of mourning doves, and one lone collared dove. My...

That would be a nice sighting for me - first time I've spotted one over here.

    Rare bird news for Florida

For those who might know how to ID these...I tracked down a different looking mockingbird on Saturday...it appeared a bit larger than normal, and seemed to have quite a bit of brown on its sides. Also, when it flew, I didn't notice any white barring underwing. By all descriptions I've seen...

    Rare bird news for Florida

I haven't yet had time to go through and post-process my shots to verify everything I saw this weekend at Wakodahatchee, but there were two birds that completely vexed me. I tried to get shots of them, but they were being very spastic, moving quickly through the branches in bad backlighting -...
