I suppose this is the same as the one in the inventory of Pousada Rio Roosevelt by Andrew Whittaker (Cotinga 31: 30).

Bret Witney has been showing this to folk on FG trips for a few years now but no idea if he was the original finder.

Guy - do you know if the new Herp. that is on poor soil ridges near ACTS in Peru (didn't have time last year to try) is a fourth new bird?

BMW didn't find the RO Herpsilochmus---credit for that goes to Doug Stotz et al., back in 1986, although they identified them as H. atricapillus.

Not sure about the answer to your Peruvian poser. It's difficult keeping up with, and making sense of, all these "new" Herpsilochmus populations that keep popping out of the woodwork, which in part explains why they're not being described in a hurry!
