Accipiter in the backyard...(Queens NY) (1 Viewer)

Salutations everyone - I got some photos of an accipiter that was hunting in the backyard. I spent a few hours observing the behavior of this bird and witnessed one kill and a couple of close calls. I am pretty sure this is a Sharp-shinned, but would like some feedback.

Absolutely sharp shinned. Nice shots.
How is it you get to watch them for hours and mine are in and out in seconds?

That's a Sharp-shinned Hawk alright.

Hi Scott, I had a blast today. What was shocking, was this guy hung around so close to me that at one point I had to back off because it came so close I had to resort to MF. I spent almost 3 hours observing and photographing this bird and watched how it employed its strategy. At one point it seemed to be daring the birds to go to the feeders...making me think that it has this technique of out waiting the birds. Really good stuff...hopefully from all of this, I get better at ID'ing accipiters.

Thanks Falcon..I was besides myself today with how cooperative this bird was.
