Nikon D90 (1 Viewer)

The D90 has turned up in stores he over the last 10 days and I managed to get one on Saturday, mainly for the video feature
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikond90/
It's supposed to have the same sensor as the D300 and it's much smaller and lighter than my D3. I wanted small and light ( and quiet ) backup , travel-type camera and also for digiscoping. First impressions are that its nicely made and takes clean images up to iso 400 and 800 is acceptable.
Here are some tests taken with the Nikon 500/4 at various isos (200/400/800).
I haven't taken any serious videos yet but I will over the next few days.
Neil.

The D90 would make a nice back up for those of us with D300. It has a 12 megapixel sensor but it's actually one made specifically for the D90.

One thing I like is that the Active D Lighting feature can be set to auto. I played with one at Best Buy about a month ago. I like it although after using a D300 for so long it feels more delicate because it's more plastic. It's image quality is the same as the D300. There are just a couple of minor things that most people wouldn't care much about that separate it from the D300.

Here is the dove at iso 1600 and 2000.
Neil.

When I take my digiscoping gear with me I'm also now including the D90 and the 300/4 AFS for action and flight shots. Yesterday I was using this setup on the tripod with the Nikon 1.4x tele. Here are a few images. Taken from 25 - 50 metres. Neil
ps there are lot's of Grey Herons coming back for the winter.

Some "touristy" photos with the D90 and the 18-55 zoom kit lens. Neil.

I got one for my wife to replace her faithful D80. I'm going to try and use it shortly for videoscoping. It's videos are great, although "only" 720p.
For plain digiscoping it's missing IMHO the metering with scopes and the MLU in comparison to the D300.
