52. There are 11.2 million acres of National Forest in Arizona, and one-fourth of the state forested.
Unfortunately much of it has been destroyed in recent years by wildfire due to ongoing drought and heavy fuel loads with lack of thinning. The two biggest were the Rodeo-Chediski fire in 2002 at 468,000 acres and the Wallow fire in 2011 at 538,000 acres.
