I'm going for Lesser Black-backed because of the red eye ring.

I think the other one may be a Rock Pipit.

Any help appreciated.

Surely a Great Black-back for the gull?
Bulbous head, thickish bill, very dark upperparts, extensive white tip to P10?

When I looked at it I too thought it to be a Greater Black-backed Gull

On the basis of the replies it is a BBG. The Collins Guide has the LBG as having a red orbital ring around the eye.

Both GBB and LBB have a red orbital ring, but GBB usually has a darker iris than LBB.

You're absolutely right, it's a GBBG. Thought the bill is a bit too massive... Proofs once more that I should take more time to look at the picture. Sorry!

For an amateur like myself, are there any obvious features that distinguish a GBB from LBB.

Apart from the points already mentioned and size difference, there is much less of a contrast between the blackness of the primary feathers and back colouration in the GBBG. And of course if you see the legs, GBBG has pink legs and LBBG yellow legs.

When I saw the black upper parts I immediately thought "GBB". The
If I see a gull with dark grey upper parts, I always think "LBB"
