Indeed. The BBC quoted a population estimate of 450, which is a lot higher than the last one I heard of about 150. However, the Hen Harrier shows us that protection is no guarantee of anything, and Beavers are earth-and-water bound.

Sadly yes but at least now there is a legal price to be paid for anyone caught killing them which there wasn't before.
