Wonderful news, confirmation from the Gwent Wetlands that Common Crane have bred there this year!!!
The chick has been named Garan which is Welsh for crane, it's parents are known as Gibble and Lofty. They are one of just three pairs of cranes to have successfully raised chicks this year, the others were I believe on the Somerset Levels.
All these birds are the result of the ongoing Great Crane Project which was started in 2010 on the Somerset Levels, just across the Bristol Channel.
