Handbook of Scotish Birds? Birdwatching nearby Aberdeen? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

maybe I will spend almost 6 months in Aberdeen (from march to september), and I would like to know which is the best handbook of scottish birds (not very expensive please xD)

I've found the RSPB Handbook of Scottish Birds and the COLLINS GUIDE. SCOTTISH BIRDS . I already have the Collins bird guide by Svensson, but I want some handbook focused only in Scottish birds.

I also would like to know some places nearby Aberdeen to birdwatch knowing I don't have any car (perhaps I will buy a bike).

Thank you for your help!

Hi Pancho,

Keep an eye on the 'birds fae Torry' thread - Torry is on the south side of Aberdeen, and in the right conditions it can be great birding.

I think if you've got the Collins guide you've got everything you need, book wise.

Hi Pancho,

If you send me your email address via an private message, I will send you the appropriate chapter of the new edition of my forthcoming book - the Best Birdwatching sites in the Scottish Highlands. It isn't properly edited and there are no maps yet, but it should give you a good idea of some of the sites north of Aberdeen.

Hope this helps,

Gordon

Montrose Basin is reachable by train, with the railway station overlooking the basin itself, and the visitor centre a brisk 20-30 minute walk away to the south.
