Bristol City's No.1 Fan!
Is this some kind of insect in this photo of a Speckled Wood, I took the image while on a visit to Radipole Lake recently. I had only noticed the creature (if it is one) when I saw it on my Computer.

Lol! I think it's just the end of a stem of some sort with some hairy bits caught up on it - possibly from fireweed.
 
I have to agree with Ian (although I can see what you're looking at). You can follow the profile of the 'stick' as it goes out of focus and off to the right.
 
I think it's a stick too.

I wouldn't worry about misidentifying it though - I spent five minutes last night trying my hardest to turn a small rock on the edge of the river below some shrubs into a Water Vole! :-O
