I got my start in birding as a mid-life thing when I met my current wife. She is an awesome birder and I kind of tagged along. That was many years ago and we both have stopped listing and just enjoy what we see. Me, mainly through bins and she has transformed herself into a great photographer. We no longer do multi day/lodge tours, because we just can't keep up at our age. We now check to see where VENT and Field Guides, etc. go and book a leisurely trip on our own taking advantage of local guides. We stick pretty much to Central and South America, mainly since air travel is more like a bus ride these days. We also travel a lot by RV throughout the western US and Canada. That said, we did however just get back from 3 weeks in South Africa. Highly recommended and worth 31 hours of airtime and airport time. Awesome birds and animals.

Hi JJ and welcome to the forum. Sounds like a pretty good way to bird. Taking your time and relaxing rather than a whirlwind tour would be my style.
