Strange bird, no pic (1 Viewer)

I saw a small bird on the ground, under my feeder here in Tampa, FL. the other day. At first I thought it was a lizard - small body, long tail, on the ground. Then it flew up into the tree! I consulted my Peterson Guide to Eastern Birds and couldn't find it. I went online and - I think - found it. A pin tailed wydah. Problem is, they don't live in Florida! Any thoughts?

Hello dgguido, and welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. You could have a Pin-tailed whydah, seems they are to be found in South Florida, cage escapees that end up surviving in the "wild".

Hi dgguido and a warm welcome from me too.

Sadly many species have been captured from the wild to be kept in cages, then get released in the 'wrong' habitat, so this is probably what's happened here. You can read more about Pin-tailed whydah here in Opus.

I hope you enjoy your time here with us.
