I know just enough about birds to sound stupid mos
I'm thinking
1. Juvie Black-crowned Heron
2. color is kinda odd but maybe juvie Yellow-crowned Heron

Exactly right on both counts. Nice comparison shots. Notice the black crowned has some yellow on the beak, as well as larger spots. The yellow crowned has an all-black bill with small spots, and is noticeably darker.

Thanks Jim! Can't believe I got them both right 8-P

The BCNH is another life bird from Village Creek... that makes 13 lifers in 3 outings totaling about 2 hours.
I wonder if they would let me pitch a tent & live there |:D|
