Hi all and greetings from Yorkshire Planning a trip down the Levels in a couple of weeks in our Campervan and looking for campsites near to some decent birding. Anyone know of any that will be open?
If you are in the britstops scheme, a couple of the pubs that allow overnight parking are very close to the reserves. The one I stayed at let me leave the van there for the day
Yes, you pay for the book, which lasts a year, and it details all the pubs, farm shops etc in the scheme that you can stop over for free, in a camper or motorhome (not for caravans or tents!). Meant for one night stopovers typically.
The annual cost is ~£30.
There are hundreds of pubs, usually quiet village ones, I check on google earth before I plan my trips.
We use them to break longer journeys into two days, but it is good for weekend birding trips too. I would say I just about get my money's worth out of it, use it for 6-10 stops a year I guess.
Your timing would be good for Britstops as the new book comes out tomorrow!
There is also wildcamping.co.uk, but I ditched that one after a year. Found it a bit more hit and miss, dodgy laybys etc.
