Gull Identifications - Chew Valley Lake, England 26.08.18 (1 Viewer)

I struggle with gulls - particularly judging the alleged differences in bill size & structure and the variability of tertial patterns. So help with the attached gratefully received.

I have identified the first as a Great Black-backed Gull, the second and third as Herring Gulls and the fourth and fifth as Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

Many thanks

Paul

Agree on ##1-4. Think #5 might be another Herring, as it has pale notches on the tertials.

But I'm crap at immature large gulls as well, so don't rely on my guesses 8-P

Just the one pic retained. I tend to be fairly brutal in only keeping one of very similar shots or deleting inferior ones and I only took a profile picture.

All the best
