Sandwell Valley (7 Viewers)

Yellowhammer singing for a few mins around the rough meadow behind Swan Pool island. Couldn’t pin it down but may be worth keeping an eye / ear open if anyone’s around there tomorrow. 2 Chiffchaff (Salters and Swan Pool) are the only other things of note per Matt Hadlington

I've been asked now rare are Redshank in the Valley.

The first documented record was in 1948 when breeding was suspected; in 1961 a nest was found near Swan Pool containing three eggs. The next breeding record was in 1987 when a pair bred on the RSPB island at Forge Mill but the eggs where taken by Crows. The pair returned the following year and was successful in rearing two young. The pair came back for several years after this with out success; birds have been recorded in all months.
in 2017 we had two records 1st-2nd April and 23rd April, the max count to-date is five birds in May 1988.

Hope this helps
