Dowitcher sp. BVI

3rd and final one for today (I tried a new spot and the only thing I could recognise was cattle egret!). Short-billed dowitcher?

Now I feel like I have to try to identify the fool thing. Ok, based almost entirely on something I read from Jan on here a few days ago, I'm going to say this is juvenile short-billed because of the buff coloured fringes and bars running along the tertials.

We'll see how I did when we hear from people that have actually seen dowitchers in the past 20 years.

Scott

By the way, where is BVI?

This is a Short-billed Dowitcher because of the internal markings on the scapulars and tertials.

BVI is British Virgin Islands.

Nice picture.
