We took a drive to Derwent water in the Lake District today walked the circular route around the lake....approx 10 miles. Saw plenty of birds as we were walking around the shore, woodland and marshland. I had not seen Goodeander before and we spotted a male/ female pair on there own approx 100 yards away from the lake edge.

We spotted lots of geese and I'm certain they were Greylag geese rather than Bean or Pink Footed.......they were very loud coming into land on a nearby field were they were in good numbers, lots of honking.

Anyways it was a great days walking with some lovely scenery and plenty of birds too!!

If you return in April to October you could well see osprey. If you have time, visit Dubwath reserve (North end of Bassenthwaite) which is a lovely small reserve with a good variety of birds. As ever, the scenery is wonderful.

Thanks dogbreath that's really useful to know.....will definitely consider it....the scenery is fabulous.
