Hi there,
I shall be visiting California at the end of May into June and was wondering if any members had any tips for birding in the area.We shall be around San Diago, death valley, Mojave and Joshua national parks. We shall also be based in L.A.,Chino hills. I see there are some wetlands just North of San Diago, worth a visit? What about the Soltan sea? Any info would be gratefuly recieved.

Many thanks,
Ashley.

I'd highly recommend getting hold of a copy of Brad Schrams "Birders guide to Southern California", basically a site guide.

All the places you mention would be good. Other p;aces to think about are Big Morongo canyon
http://www.bigmorongo.org/ although haven't been since the recent fire.
Nearer Chino Hills area check out the San Jacinto wildlife area and also Prado park, Hidden valley in Riverside.

A good place to look for an overview of all this is

http://fog.ccsf.cc.ca.us/~jmorlan/county.htm

Click on any county and you'll get links to various sites applicable to that area.

Get the book if you can.

And have fun, its a good time to be here

Thank you

Hi David,
Many thanks for the info on California. The book you suggested is readily available in the uk and i've found some helpful sites via the web addresses.

Ashley.
