Med Gull's in Sandwell Valley

The first Med Gull recorded in Sandwell Valley was 31 December 1991, an Adult bird on Forge Mill. We had to wait till 2003 for the next bird an Adult in August. Since then they have been almost annual seen most years July and August being the favoured months. there have been thirty records to date with three this year.

0645-1040 c30 hirundines on Swan Pool inc 1+ Sand Martin, few parties of House Martin seem to be moving through. 5 Teal, 4 Pochard, Common Sand, 2 Snipe on FML. Relatively quiet otherwise, hoping something will drop in through the day per Matt Hadlington

Of interest on the Trio Day we also had a ringed Black Headed Gull, Craig managed to read some of the characters on the ring and it was a Helsinki ring so it was ringed somewhere in Finland.

An extremely hot month with 90 species recorded four being new for the year Avocet,Green Sandpiper, Black Tailed Godwit and Turnstone the Avocet being our 5th record and the Turnstone the first since 1994,we had at least 12 Common Sandpiper and 10 Little Ringed plover move through the Valley also Oystercatcher x4, Dunlin x3 and our first returning Snipe, We had our 7th Red Kite of the year our 21st record also our third Mediterranean Gull of the year, sevral Peregrine's and a couple of Hobby. A Juvenile Yellow Legged Gull was present for several days the 7th of the year being our 30th record, Willow Tit was seen a couple of times and several Sand Martin moved through, we had Little Egret x4 possible a family party, Lapwing x24, Ring Necked Parakeet x15, Teal x5, Pochard x5 Common Tern x3 and Shoveler x2, Late news from June a little Gull spent five minutes on Swan Pool and a new Odonata for the Valley was found by Craig Reed in the form of a Lesser Emperor on the Reserve on the 19th July.
