Hi

I´m planning on a long weekend, maybe week long trip to madrid some time in June/ July but will be without a car.
Does anyone have any info on how to get buses or trains out from the city to some good spots nearby, and also if there are any decent parks or things within the city itself.

cheers in advance

Joe

Hi, Joe! Nice to see you here! ;)

I go to Madrid regularly because my sister lives there. There is WONDERFUL birding in Madrid by public transport. Don't miss the opportunity to go there because you can have a good chance to see a good bunch of interesting things.

My favourite spots are:

El Pardo: I get there easily by bus, and there you can find Azure-winged Magpie, Bee-eater, Hoopoe, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture and others.

Rivas-Vaciamadrid: the subway gets there in 45 min from N Madrid (where my sister lives). Wonderful place, with many different habitats. I see there regularly Serin, White Stork, Black Wheatear, Purple Heron, Little Bittern, Golden Oriole, Great Reed Warbler, Penduline Tit, Bee-eater, Sardinian Warbler, Purple Swamphen, and sometimes Spectacled Warbler and Teckla's Lark.

I can't remember now the numbers of the buses and the subway lines, but I will PM you with details.

Cheers!

Marian

Thanks Marian, that would be very useful.
The birds you have listed have certainly whetted my appetaite for a trip to Madrid.
