After the first experiences with the 553, which is now in use alongside the 552, I can say:
The 553 is a worthy successor to the 552. It has all the positive features (small, light, load up to at least 6 kg, horizontally smooth movement, vertically wonderful friction setting, etc.), but additional a few improvements have been made:
.the load suspension spring, which prevents vertical tilting, can no longer be switched on or off accidentally anymore
.the handle can no longer loosen, is now angled and can be adjusted in alignment as desired
The controls (locks and handle) are in the same places, so you don't have to change your mind when switching between the two models.
After the 552 is working as it did on the first day for now 12 years, I'm sure, the 553 will do the same.
Highly recommended for large spotting scopes or the like.
