Living in Vietnam but new to birding (1 Viewer)

Hi all. I joined BF yesterday and would like to know if any members live in the south of Vietnam. I live in Vung Tau and would like to meet keen birders for days out birding and to pick their brains on great places to go to find birds. I've found a great place close to where I live called Minh Dam, an old Vietcong natural fortified position. I'm new to birding and keen to learn as much as possible from people with a good knowledge of the birds of Vietnam. I'm not interested in costly birding tours but would be willing to pay local guides if the price was right.

Hi Nick,

There are not many birders in Vietnam, but still a few.

There is Richard Craik, who runs a birds tour company in Saigon, but he also goes to the beach and does some leisurely birding sometimes near Vung Tau : http://www.vietnambirding.com/about-us.aspx

There is a nice blog, where mostly Hanoi based birders report their sightings and pictures. If you have something to share, you can also post there: http://vietnambirdnews.blogspot.ch/

Best birding sites not too far from where you live are Cat Tien NP, Di Linh and Dalat, but I guess you have figuered that out by now ;)
