Sorry about the focus but at least there is a pattern, but I cannot find a match - any clues? Seen at Fuente de Piedra in December.

OK thanks, it was the white sides of the fanned tail which threw me off, my book shows all ducks with the tail closed to a point in flight. I had Mallard in my notes but it was written much later.
