Hello, all:
This morning at about 4:20 a.m., there was what sounded for all the world like a lesser nighthawk calling from a pine tree in my yard. This is odd because I live in the South Bay Area of the San Francisco Bay Area (Los Gatos/Campbell/San Jose area). Their range doesn't usually include this area, and certainly not at this time of year. Is there a local bird I'm missing that has a similar low, whirring call to the lesser nighthawk? The calling lasted for five to ten minutes before the lights of a passing car interrupted it.
For reference, the call was essentially identical to the one found at this link: http://birds.audubon.org/birds/lesser-nighthawk
Thanks in advance for any leads!
