Announcing November 2007 photo theme challenge - Birds on Feeders (1 Viewer)

The theme for the November 2007 monthly competition is 'Birds on Feeders'.

We often try to take photos of birds on natural looking perches but this month we're looking for entries showing birds on a feeder. I'd imagine most bird watchers with yards/gardens have some sort of feeder - but those at feeding stations or parks etc. are acceptable as well.

A feeder can be anything where food is provided - tables, hanging feeders, ground feeders, magic logs etc.

Entries must show bird(s) visiting feeders with feeder in the frame. This can be of birds in flight by feeders, perched by/on feeders or actually taking food from feeders.

Rules –
1. Entry to have been taken in the last twelve months i.e. since 1st November 2006.
2. Date taken to be included in the entry - must at least include month and year.
3. Entry to be uploaded between now- November 21st midnight (GMT).
4. Your entry must contain a bird or birds that are obviously visiting feeders, whether perched on or nearby feeders or flying close to feeders in order to feed.
5. The bird must be wild and can be of any species.
6. Location taken to be included and must include at least the county/state and country.
7. One entry per member.
8. Only minor image adjustment is permitted, such as cropping, sharpening, contrast, and levels. The photo must not be otherwise greatly manipulated ie. objects should not be added / removed in order to enhance the shot - no composite images.
9. Once uploaded a photo is classed as an entry and cannot be replaced by another shot. However, you have until the closing date / time of this competition to ensure that your photo meets criteria.
10. The entry must be your own work and not previously submitted in a competition on this site.
11. The bird's common name must be given - though please add the scientific too!
12. Entries to be uploaded directly by entrants to the Monthly Photo Competitions Gallery

30 entries will be selected for addition to the voting booth for members to vote upon.

A voting booth will be posted after the 21st.

Comments on entries are permitted.

Any queries about this months competition please post below.

Ian, I have a question about a photo would like to enter in this theme. This photo shows a bird sitting on a pearch that I have placed above a bucket with lots of small fish in, in front of the hide were I am sitting.

You can not see the bucket on the photo but you can see that the pearch is used for this (if you know what to look for) and the bird has a fish in the mouth. These birds has been fed at this place for a couple of years.

I know this is a unusual feeder but as it is a lovely photo I thought it would be nice to enter it in this theme.... ;o)

Well, what do you think?

Hi Bengt,

It's difficult to say without seeing the photo, but from the description you give it maybe more suitable for a different competition theme. The idea behind this months competition is to show both bird and feeder in the photo - the design of the feeder doesn't matter, but it must clearly be a feeder rather than just a perch.

If your photo had the bucket in the frame it would be okay, but by the sounds of it there is just the bird (with fish) on a perch.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if a stump or post with some seeds on it counts as a bird at a feeder? For example the marsh tit on a post in my gallery?
If not I've plenty of others i can use.

Thanks

'Since', from the aspect of language, includes the date referred to. So, unless BF wants the Language Police on their case, then yes it does include the 1st ;)
