The only light was from a torch, so the quality of the pictures is very poor. Sorry.

It does look like a Burrowing Owl.

Ran into many of them when I lived in Florida for a few years.
 
Thank you so much everybody. I forgot to mention the owl was in the jungle. At the shore of the Madre de Dios river. I read that the habitat of the burrowing owl is mainly open dry areas with low vegetation that's not the case. Nevertheless I have found a reference of an individual that was seen in Puerto Maldonado, but it seems it was the first citation there. Maybe mine is second? :eek:)
