Junco bairdi Bairds's Junco is recognised by Howell & Webb 1995 (A Guide to the Birds of Mexico & Northern Central America).

AOU recognised J bairdi up to the Check-list 5th edition (1957), but it was lumped with J phaeonotus in the 6th edition (1983).​
