any defining characteristics you could point out ?

Shape, colour. Note esp. the beak shape. The shape of the bird is pretty unlike other warblers you're likely to encounter in the reed bed like reed warbler. Although still dissimilar, it's perhaps closer to wren but the sandy colour rules this out, and also makes it different from Cetti's warbler, for example.

And a strong tendency to fly bouncing up-and-down, calling
'...... zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .............. zit .....'
rather interminably!
