  1. Red-legged Partridge

    Red-legged Partridge

AAP I'd forgotten all about this picture! I was sitting in the car and must have noticed a movement in the wing-mirror. Twisted round and managed to fire off two shots (the second one even more was hidden behind the posts!) It's interesting really, the partridge was less than 2 car lengths...
  2. Baby Water Rail

    Baby Water Rail

I'd forgotten about this picture - back in 2007, for the first time, Kinnordy cut back the reeds in front of one of the hides allowing great views of the Water Rails if they came out, then the youngsters started appearing!
  3. Common Gull behaviour

    Common Gull behaviour

This picture was taken a few years ago up on my Patch; I came across it again today and hoped you all might be interested. There were about 40 Common Gulls on my Patch that day. Shortly after the numbers virtually doubled - nearly all of them sub-adult. After a while they all started to fly...
  4. Lesser Spotted Woodpecker

    Lesser Spotted Woodpecker

I knew these were small birds, but hadn'te realised quite how small they were! Another taken through the window of Jos's cabin in the forest.
  5. Grey-headed (or Grey-faced) Woodpecker

    Grey-headed (or Grey-faced) Woodpecker

I'm back to the winter of 2007 and my first trip abroad for many years. The temperature was around -16c but clear blue skies. Fortunately Jos has a heated cabin in his forest though the windows steam up on occasion. We'd been watching Lesser and Middle (both Lifers for me) as well as Great...
  6. Wryneck

    Wryneck

I watched this bird flying backwards and forwards many times a day. He'd sit in this brush pile before going down into the nest. Never could I get a photo of him in the open though, always partly obscured by some of the twigs. This was the best I managed. I wasn't complaining though, as I'd...
  7. Greater Whitethroat

    Greater Whitethroat

This bird was in an apple tree above the picnic table where I had breakfast every morning. He sang all day for the whole week I was there. But would he sit in the right place without a leaf in front of him.... not once!
  8. Tree Sparrow

    Tree Sparrow

One of many nesting in the garden. Took a while to get one still enough for long enough though!
  9. Spotted Flycatcher

    Spotted Flycatcher

There were a pair nesting beside Jos's cabin in the forest. The light wasn't good in there so I was quite pleased to get this picture - especially as I was being eaten alive by the mozzies (Scottish midges are pussycats in comparison to them!)
  10. Pied Flycatcher male

    Pied Flycatcher male

Another from my Lithuania archives. This bird was really one of the major targets. The nest box was on the house wall and they usually landed in a bush first, before going up to feed the youngsters. Sooo... I settled myself the other side of the garden, focused the scope on the branch they...
  11. White Stork

    White Stork

Lithuanians love the Storks and erect poles with platforms on for them to nest on. There were at least 6 such in this small village. It was great to watch their comings-and-goings and listen to the bill clapping as a mate returned or a stranger flew over.
  12. Roller female

    Roller female

And here's the wife. She wasn't nearly so visibly active as the male.
  13. Roller male

    Roller male

Many of you will recognise this male Roller... now thought to be deceased. This was the main aim of my visit to Lithuania and I was lucky enough to see him most days hawking around the meadows in front of Jos's house. The telegraph wire was his favourite perch, about 100 yards from the house...
  14. Blue-headed Wagtail

    Blue-headed Wagtail

Another from my holiday in Lithuania. Not a brilliant photo but I was just so pleased to get it and want to get it in my Gallery. I'd thought these were Grey-headed but he gave me a lecture on the subspecies LOL. This was was beside the pools at his forest and eventually sat still in the bush...

  17. Don't Snatch

    Don't Snatch

They were completely unconcerned by my presence in the garden. This juvenile was constantly calling for feed most of the day. However, it took many attempts to get one picture without too much movement in it.
