Grey-headed (or Grey-faced) Woodpecker
I'm back to the winter of 2007 and my first trip abroad for many years.

The temperature was around -16c but clear blue skies. Fortunately Jos has a heated cabin in his forest though the windows steam up on occasion.

We'd been watching Lesser and Middle (both Lifers for me) as well as Great Spotted Woodies on the feeders and he said that if a Grey-headed came I was not to move as they were very shy.

Then wowee she arrived. I did manage to get a couple of shots (through the window) when she was feeding, so very much a record shot.

Gonna be honest here. I didn't even know there was such a woodpecker. I'd be doing the happy dance getting a shot of this Woodie. You up to dancing ;)

Congratulations on another lifer (several really). We have them in Sweden bit I've never seen one.

Thanks everyone.

Keep looking Graham - you'l get one one day.

KC: If I'd done a dance for every lifer I saw on that trip I'd never have been still LOL. Though Jos did one 20 minutes later when a White-backed appeared - the first time seen on his feeders. They appear to be resident and thought to be breeding in his forest now.

Well done, Delia, it's a record shot I'm unlikely to ever get.

It's amazing how a photograph takes you back in time. I bet whenever you look at this it brings the whole trip back as if it was yesterday.
