  1. Eastern Bluebird

    Eastern Bluebird

This bluebird was very cooperative, landing in the parking lot of Powder Valley and then flying up to eye-level perches. I'm looking forward to getting out for some bird photography this weekend, though it might be rainy.
  2. Same Robin, Same Snake

    Same Robin, Same Snake

In this picture he's got more of the snake showing. I think it is a Brown Snake, which would be about right for the size and coloration.
  3. Swamp Sparrow

    Swamp Sparrow

I only got one shot of this guy, but I was pretty happy with it.
  4. Robin with Snake

    Robin with Snake

I was amazed to see this robin eating a snake yesterday. I found it with half the snake already gone, and it slowly finished the rest of it.
  5. Female Cardinal

    Female Cardinal

I'd set up this branch hoping to use the yellow forsythia bush as a background, but the weight of the snow moved it down and a lot of the bush was also covered in snow. Still, some of the background matches her color.
  6. Cardinal

    Cardinal

It's hard to believe that it's the end of March with so much snow around.
  7. Song Sparrow

    Song Sparrow

Although I wasn't really happy to see the snow, I got some nice pictures because the birds were eager to use the feeders.
  8. Mockingbird

    Mockingbird

I felt like I was having a shootout with this guy, because I was leaning out from side to side from behind our car trying to get him in our forsythia bush. I didn't get that, but I was pretty happy with this.
  9. White-Breasted Nuthatch

    White-Breasted Nuthatch

The weather is getting nicer here, and this nuthatch was very cooperative. I also saw two phoebes and a brown thrasher, so I'm hoping it will be full spring soon!
  10. Sanderling

    Sanderling

This is another one from the same afternoon. I really liked the beak in the water.
  11. Sanderling

    Sanderling

This was on the beach in Delray Beach, Florida. There were about 6 of these little guys running around.
  12. Anhinga

    Anhinga

This was at Green Cay. I had a great trip, and got many great pictures along with several life birds.
  13. Savannah Sparrow 2

    Savannah Sparrow 2

This is another one from the same spot. I took a lot of pictures of these guys, since they were very cooperative.
  14. Savannah Sparrow

    Savannah Sparrow

This is from a few weeks ago at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary. There was a whole flock of these guys pecking around by the visitors center.
  15. American Goldfinch

    American Goldfinch

I like the way the beak looks kind of metallic. The bird seems kind of out of focus around the edges though, maybe because it's almost the same color as the background.
  16. Chickadee

    Chickadee

Today was cold and gray and I only took about six shots, but I ended up liking this one a lot. I like how round the chickadee looks.
  17. Song Sparrow

    Song Sparrow

I had seen this guy earlier, and was hoping he would stop by by when I was shooting. However, he had a confrontation with with a white-throated sparrow, and I was sorry not to be at an angle to get any good pictures, since he bent over and spread his tail feathers up in the air.
  18. Dark-Eyed Junco

    Dark-Eyed Junco

Today was very cold and snowy, but I made a cover for my lens and spent quite a while outside. This was taken lying in the snow, using a homemade groundpod that is basically just a board with a screw. I also used a promaster multicoated uv filer to protect the front element from blowing snow...
  19. Tufted Titmouse

    Tufted Titmouse

The birds were coming to the feeders and to scratch on the ground constantly today. Cold weather here always seems to do that.
  20. Chickadee 2

    Chickadee 2

    Another one from this afternoon.
  21. Chickadee

    Chickadee

I took some pictures this afternoon, the chickadees were cooperative, and the angle of the light finally allowed me to get their eyes distinct from the black around them.
  22. Titmouse

    Titmouse

It was gray and cold with very light flurries today, but there were lots of nice birds around, including several Eurasian Tree Sparrows, and they were really enjoying the bird bath.
  23. Dark-Eyed Junco

    Dark-Eyed Junco

I had an excellent day yesterday photographing my backyard birds, and I was really pleased with how sharp this one came out. I think it's about a 50% crop, although I wish the background wasn't the sky. Glad to have juncos around again!
  24. Carolina Wren 3

    Carolina Wren 3

More to come! And maybe I'll finally get a bird on my berry branch.
  25. Carolina Wren 2

    Carolina Wren 2

Another from this set. I got several nice shots.
