It looks like this Grey Teal is showing off some rather pretty knickers, doesn't it. I'm rather fond of this picture for some reason.

    Busy place

Making his way towards the Pink-eared Duck was a Red-kneed Dotterel, quietly passing a foraging Grey Teal. There was plenty going on that morning! I was pleased to see the dotterel though, as I don't think I'd seen one for ages!
  4. A sleepy pair

    A sleepy pair

Moving on a yard or two was a Grey Teal dozing away with a Pink-eared Duck, who wasn't displaying a pink ear!

  7. Black and grey

    Black and grey

The close positioning of these ducks allowed for a good comparison between Pacific Black Duck and Grey Teal, with the black duck being so much darker. It's sometimes not easy to confidently ID the black duck unless you see the obvious facial markings. At least that's my difficulty LOL
  8. He doesn't look at all grey!!

He doesn't look at all grey!!

I still remain a little puzzled as to why he's call Grey Teal. Guess someone knows though LOL. He was on the same lake as the Chestnut Teal I showed you the other day... unlike that one this Grey Teal sighting was my first of the trip, though I was now to see many more. I think they're quite...
  9. Nice eyes

    Nice eyes

I'd not really noticed the Grey Teal's eye colour before this picture. Rather attractive, aren't they.

  11. Plump

    Plump

... that's how my book describes the Australian Shelduck. My second Lifer of the morning... and I got a pair of them too (with a Grey Teal getting in on the act LOL)
  12. Uniform

    Uniform

That word seemed to be the word of the day for my bird book... they used it three times in the opening sentence describing this little duck LOL. It doesn't look very 'grey' to me, but the book says 'uniformly greyish-brown. I thought the scientific name might mean 'gracefull' but it actually...
  13. Dotty

    Dotty

Strangely another which was the first I'd seen since the first day out with Peter and Adrienne. I'm guessing we just didn't get to the right places for them in the Albany area. Lovely wee waders these, aren't they. He's with a Grey Teal in case you're wondering.
  14. Peaceful

    Peaceful

Dozing quietly were a few Grey Teal with a Pink-eared Duck, the first one I'd seen since my first day out with Peter & Adrienne in South Australia.
  15. Little and Large

    Little and Large

Just along from the night heron a much larger Australian Ibis, with a Grey Teal for company.
  16. Pelly and friends

    Pelly and friends

A little distant, and a big zoom and crop thereafter too, were this group (well only a little part of it really). In there is an Australian Pelican, three Black Swans and a load of Grey Teal.
  17. Grey....

    Grey....

.... well sort of LOL This was now my first Lifer of the day, a Grey Teal. Both adults are the same. However, they do look rather like a female Chestnut Teal, but they lack the whitish plumage round the throat which the Grey shows.
  18. The Grey

    The Grey

.... but not Gandalf LOL Wandering along to another lake, there was a Grey Teal sitting on a fallen branch. Sweet wee ducks these.

Back to Australia, temporarily. These birds always seem to have a delightfully innocent and good-natured expression!

    Duck gallery.

Not the sharpest photo but I did like getting the three species lined up!
  22. Grey Teal

    Grey Teal

The last in my trio of duck photos. The Grey Teal is not as spectacular as the Chestnut, but it's one of my favourites!

    'Can't hide from me!'

Hi all, just sharing one that I took on a visit to my favourite place, (my getaway) I had been watching a whole heap of birds and spotted the male Shoveler but couldn't find the female, then I saw the orange legs and she could 'hide no mor' LOL. A species that I have wanted to see close up for a...
