    Which Owl Species, Italian Alps

    Hey all. Please have a listen to these recordings I've made last September. These were taken in the Italian Alps in the Susa Valley, elevation approx 1000m. The local resident owl species are Tawny, Long-Eared, Eurasian Pygmy, and Boreal. If anyone has any experience in differentiating calls...

    The OFNC went to Amherst Island last Sunday, one of the best places to view wintering owls. We were not disappointed, and found three Boreal Owls in "Owl Woods"...a lifer for me and many in the group! I was thrilled to find one of these owls on a branch in the open.

I had to drive north to Ottawa to get this picture, but it was worth it. I drove back in a snow storm next day but hey, I got the bird...

    Here I Am

    The last time anyone had seen one of these around here was 1994 I think. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. He was really hidden in a holly tree and to close for a complete body shot.
