Well, something's got him bristling... ;)
  4. All shook up

    All shook up

This Bittern crept furtively through the reeds then stepped into the open and started to do a strange little dance, running about, flapping and stretching and shaking it's feathers, it was very entertaining! It did this for several minutes before slinking away into the reedbed
  5. Bittern

    Bittern

This Bittern, distinguishable by it's dark colouring, has been seen regularly over the past few weeks in front of the Bittern Hide at Minsmere

A big thanks to Simon for offering me the use of his 500f4 to take this shot, what an amazing lens!

    Bittern

I met up with BF members Simon (Lovejoy) and Clare (Rosefinch) yesterday in the Bittern hide at Minsmere, The Bitterns were performing well with two parading in front of the hide and several more seen in flight over the reserve Great to meet you both again Simon and Clare, happy holidays!

    I can see you

it was remarkable that people walked past this bird, I guess tribute to its camouflage skills
  17. Bye bye Bittern

    Bye bye Bittern

as you can see from the other image I found this bird having a good look around from the top of the reeds, after a few minutes it made its moe and flew to another location

Another shot from yesterday's close encounter
  20. Bittern

    Bittern

I think I may have disturbed this Bittern's meal, it took off quite close to me and flew off krawking(?) loudly Luckily I had the camera set up for birds in flight and was ready for it, that makes a change! ;)
  21. Bittern

    Bittern

This bird was spending a lot of time preening in the reeds and finally had a look out before hopping across to the next reed bed, obviously didn't wish to get wet
  22. Slowly Slowly

    Slowly Slowly

The fact that there was little light and I was shooting at speeds of 1/100 doesn't matter too much with birds that move sooo sloooowly
  23. My best side

    My best side

about as close an encounter with a Bittern that I could have expected, at times it was too close to get it in the frame at 400mm, shame the light was fading and I was shooting wide open
  24. Bittern

    Bittern

When everyone had left the hide and peace and quiet returned the Bittern re-appeared and happily went about its business undisturbed
  25. Smee

    Smee

handheld; 0.00 EV; 1/200s; f/8; ISO 400 Smee. A variant of "Hide and Seek" game, in which only one person hides and the others must find them, hiding with them when they do so. Exactly what I did: when I spotted it trying to hide amongst the reeds, I did the same, patiently waiting...
