    Golden Voice

I was taking photos of waterfowl and swans and while hiding was constantly serenaded by this little bird singing his heart out. Didn't take long to spot him and (even though this is the only Cisticola I have spotted to date) kept up his singing while watching his photo being taken. It was quite...

    Fan-tailed Warbler

Japanese name: Sekka This highly vocal warbler perches on tall reeds and sings as it makes high loops from branch to branch within its territory. I have several of these birds in the sugar cane fields behind my house. I've heard the name of this bird has changed to Ziting cisticola. I prefer...
  7. Cisticola (3 of 3)

    Cisticola (3 of 3)

I think that this is one of the short-tailed Cisticolas (Wing-snapping, Cloud, or Pale-crowned) in moult (into breeding plumage, which is not much more exciting than the winter plumage). These are small birds (9-11 cm) that are difficult to tell apart if not calling. Has anyone any experience...

    Zitting Cisticola

Late afternoon light helped a bit with this impressive little bird. It had been displaying happily to it's mate before settling right in front of me.
  12. Zitting (fan-tailed )cisticola

    Zitting (fan-tailed )cisticola

One of the easier to Identify species of the genus. due to its zit zit flight call. The Cisticolas are notoriously difficult to tell apart but this little fan tailed or Zitting as the are called in Africa performed well and allowed me to stalk close enough for this shot.
