  1. Lichen nibbling

    Lichen nibbling

Carrion Crow at my former address, where they seemed to find something nutritious in the lichen on neighbours roofs. They did this a lot (I've posted this behaviour before, but not recently). Thank you for your comments and good birding! John
  2. Thirsty

    Thirsty

Another visitor to the river, was a Carrion Crow who only came down to cool his feet and have a drink.
  3. A face in the dark

    A face in the dark

I must admit I was puzzled and wondered what the Carrion Crow was looking at. I could see a funny shape in the trees myself, so took a picture, hoping it would become clearer when I downloaded it. It still looks like a ginormous cow. Obviously this must be the Loch of the Lowes Monster...
  4. Bombs away!

    Bombs away!

Whilst walking along the beach I saw this bird trying to break into a whelk by dropping it from a height onto pebbles. I managed to get both the falling shell and the bird in focus.

Ken has an eye condition which makes it difficult to see some things. Anyway we were having our lunch up at my patch whe he said - "What's that... is it something?". I asked where he was looking. Don't know he said!! Very helpful. Anyway I gave him the camera to see if he could get a picture...

    Crow

Freshly predated. One of dozens (goslings, ducklings, coot chicks, moorhen chicks, et cetera). They grab them by the neck on land and "osprey style like" from the water.
  9. Carrion Crow

    Carrion Crow

Rather a frustrating bird to photograph in flight, not much detail shows up. Anyway, have a good weekend folks. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well, and good birding! John
  10. Carrion Crow

    Carrion Crow

A bird seen just after it had been bathing, the white spots on it's lower body are droplets of water

Feasting on lichen. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John
  12. Eurasian Sparrowhawk vs Carrion Crow

    Eurasian Sparrowhawk vs Carrion Crow

Two hours before this was taken, there had been two Crows trying to escort a Sparrowhawk (presumably this bird) out of "their" airspace, but all were gone before I could get pictures. A couple of hours later the raptor reappeared, and hostilities were resumed, allowing a few shots. From this...

    Panting

We weren't yet at record temperatures. Those came just a few days after I flew back to Norway. But it was plenty hot. Too hot for me with only hiking gear, no summer clothes to wear (suitcase didn't arrive until the week after I got home again). And clearly too hot for this crow - one of two...

    Carrion Crow

Flight shots of crows never seem to work particularly well (it's difficult to capture fine plumage detail, especially against the light) but I'm wondering what this bird is carrying in its bill. It doesn't look like an acorn. All suggestions welcome. Storm Eunice is due to hit Britain tomorrow...

Just a carrion crow but the first time I have been happy with how I have caught the plumage.

I left the feeders and drove to the western end of the reserve to look back across the marsh. Keen to see what was about and moving there. Not too much, a distant crow sitting on a post in the bog; there were also some Greylag and Lapwings flying around but didn't get pictures of them (at least...
