    Crested barbet fairly close

We were lucky to see a few birds at the picnic grounds where we were allowed out of the vehicle and could sneak up close. That's where we saw the Nightjar, and also this Crested barbet.

    Crested Barbet (Trachyphonus vaillantii)

I took this photo of a Crested Barbet (Trachyphonus vaillantii) perching on a tree in Harare, Zimbabwe - I just love the colors of the bird, blue sky and the yellow berries he was eating.

    Crested barbet

There were three photographers in the car trying to get the bird to hop onto the upper branch... but, of course, it just wouldn't. Originally it only showed us its backside, so I guess we should have been somewhat grateful!

    Crested Barbet

Also sometimes referred to as the scrambled egg bird - yellow and white with a bit of red. Typical of barbet's they feed on fruit and berries as well as various insects, but I recently learned that they may even rob other birds nests of their eggs and chicks.
