Aplomado Falcon (Falco femoralis subsp. pichinchae) Cordillera Blanca, Huascaran National Park, between Laguna Patochocha and the Carpa Reception Center, southeast of Pachacoto, Ancash, Per at ca. 4,100 m (13,451 ft) elevation. Mountain/river valley with bogs and puna grassland.

Following the location reported by other birders we travelled a difficult road until we came upon this bird on the fence post. It was quite willing to remain there for a few minutes allowing some good viewing in the wind.
Aplomado Falcon - a highland bird here. Notice almost no Supercillium. A photo of the back of head did clearly show a dark buff nape band that would normally connect to the supercillium.
